The 2005 Lincoln LS is a whole lot of car. The LS stands
for "luxury sport" or if it doesn't, it should,
as the car has the characteristics in full measure. This
is not particularly rare for the class, but the Lincoln
has some surprises in other area as well. Specifically,
it has a great safety pedigree and it offers an unusual
amount of choice and variation. Combine all these strengths
with styling refinements and the 2005 LS is a car to take
notice of.
Available Models
The 2005 Lincoln LS comes in five versions this year, built
around two engine choices: the V6 Luxury is the base version,
followed by the V6 Appearance and Premium models. In the
V8 line-up buyers can enjoy the performance-oriented V8
Sport or the more luxurious top-level V8 Ultimate.
Interior Features
The 2005 Lincoln LS has new interior colors; Dark Stone
/ Medium Light Stone / Camel replaces former Dark Stone
/ Medium Light Stone two-tone. This interior can house 6
passengers in comfort and has plenty of room for passengers
and cargo. The five models offer much to choose from, with
varying levels of standard features across the lineup. However,
even the base Luxury model is loaded with standards; air
conditioning with dual automatic temperature control and
air filtration, adjustable pedals, power-adjustable front
driver and passenger seats, leather seating surfaces and
AM/FM in-dash CD player are all included-after that, it
depends on the model.
New options for 2005 include power adjustable pedals (with
available memory function on all series except V-6 Luxury),
side-curtain air bags and extended rear park assist. Options
continued from last year; Lincolns' DVD-based navigation
system with touch screen and THX-Certified sound, Sirius
satellite radio and heated rear seats.
Exterior Features
The Lincoln LS haven't ignored the exterior, however, with
a new front bumper fascia and three new exterior colours:
Norsea Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Charcoal Beige Clearcoat
Metallic and Bronze Clearcoat Metallic.
Performance
As their name suggests, V6 models come with a V6 engine.
It is 3.0-liter model, and it generates 232 horsepower at
6750 rpm and 220 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. Not surprisingly,
V8 models are equipped with a 3.9-liter V8 engine with 280
horsepower at 4000 rpm and 286 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.
5-speed automatic overdrive transmission is standard across
the board. Transmission improved for smoother shifts.
The 2005 Lincoln LS is a rear-wheel drive vehicle. Both
engines on the 2005 LS are improved with the additions of
variable intake camshaft timing and advanced drive-by-wire
electronic throttle control. The handling remains as precise
and fine-tuned as last year's upgraded model.
Safety and Security
Luxury generally means high levels of safety but with the
Lincoln it is taken to another level with such features
as curtain-side airbags as optional extras and standard
rear-obstacle detection. What's more, the 2005 LS models
all have standard all-speed traction control, 4-wheel antilock
brakes, dual front airbags and side-impact airbags. Not
surprisingly, the LS has been a "Best pick" for
five years running at the Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety.
