Not all Civics are created equal, though all Civics last
a long, long time. If you want the model that is a favorite
among "tuner" enthusiasts, you need look no further
than the Civic Si. It is a hatchback with a performance
base that just screams to be tricked out.
The Honda Civic Si hatchback was given plenty in the way
of upgrades for the 2004 model year, so 2005 basically sees
the same package offered. That is, it is still sporty, fast
and decidedly aggressive.
Available Models
The 2005 Honda Civic is offered in an array of models. There
are coupes and sedans in DX, VP, LX, HX, EX and Special
Edition models, plus the Si hatchback and a Hybrid model
(other Civic models covered separately).
Interior Features
The 2005 Honda Civic Si has a unique interior that speaks
of the performance powertrain that rests under its hood.
The versatile hatchback package includes 60/40 split folding
rear seats-it is functional as well, in other words.
Sporty details consistent with the Si's European breeding
include aggressively bolstered sport seats with red stitching,
a rally-style shifter mounted on the center instrument panel
and white-face gauges.
Other standard features this year include a cruise control,
a CD player, air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver
seat, power mirrors, windows and door locks, remote keyless
entry, a tachometer, map lights, floormats, a leather-wrapped
steering wheel, a cargo cover and a rear wiper/washer.
Exterior Features
As mentioned, last year's Honda Civic Si was enhanced inside
and out. The 2005 model retains those features, including
standard 16-inch alloy wheels and front and rear styling
enhancements.
A rear spoiler and a power sunroof are standard as well.
Performance
The 2005 Honda Civic Si uses a 2.0-liter i-VTEC dual-overhead
cam 4-cylinder engine. It churns out an impressive 160 horsepower
at 6500 rpm and 132 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm, the most
ever for a production Civic model.
The technologically advanced i-VTEC system continually
adjusts the intake camshaft phase depending on engine speed
and load for a smooth torque curve that delivers refinement
and fuel economy at low rpm, and maximum performance at
high rpm. The sole transmission available for 2005 is a
5-speed manual setup.
The 2005 Honda Civic Si uses Control-Link MacPherson strut
front suspension and compact Reactive-Link double-wishbone
rear suspension systems. Front and rear stabilizer bars
and electrical power steering with variable assist are also
included.
Safety and Security
Large-diameter front and rear disk brakes and dual front
airbags round out the package.
