Visit Honda for more information on the Honda Accord Hybrid.

Don't look now, but Honda already has three hybrid vehicles in 2005 after the introduction of the all-new Accord Hybrid. While others are just contemplating it, Honda is proving that it can be done.

And it can be done at a profit. With the all-new Accord Hybrid, Honda introduces the world's first V6-powered hybrid vehicle. It will be available in dealerships nationwide on December 3, 2004.

Hopefully others will follow their lead.

Available Models
The 2005 Accord lineup includes coupes and sedans in DX, LX and EX trims, as well as the new Hybrid (other Accords covered separately).

Interior Features
The Accord Hybrid is given a sedan's body style. That means it has four full doors and room for up to five passengers. Quite roomy, it is able to provide 14 cubic feet of cargo volume.

Hybrids are also nicely appointed on the interior. They have such luxury features like a leather interior, dual zone automatic hybrid climate control, an 8-way power driver's seat, XM Satellite radio and a 6-disc CD changer.

Exterior Features
The 2005 Accord Hybrid uses Honda's new active-noise-control system, designed to electronically quell mechanical, road and wind noise.

The makers at Honda also give the Hybrid a special exterior that includes a unique grille and a decklid spoiler.

Performance
The key to the Hybrid is Honda's advanced Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) full hybrid system in combination with new Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology.

It all begins with a 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 255 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 232 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It is teamed to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

The IMA system basically deactivates three cylinders when cruising or decelerating to save fuel. When coming to a stop, the IMA system shuts off the vehicle's engine at speeds below 10 mph to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

When cruising at steady speeds, the VCM system deactivates the V6 engine's rear bank of cylinders, closing both the intake and exhaust valves for reduced fuel consumption.

Compared to the Civic Hybrid, the Accord Hybrid's IMA motor torque output is improved by 26 percent during startup and is more than doubled during driving to 100 lb-ft from 46 lb-ft. Estimated EPA fuel economy ratings are 29 miles per gallon in the city and 37 mpg highway.

Safety and Security
The Accord Hybrid has a standard safety feature list that is very responsible. Dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain side airbags and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are included.
