Accords, like Civics, are mainstays in the Honda family.
One step up in size, price, power and class from the smaller
Civic, the Accord has just a little more appeal than its
smaller counterpart. However, both ride on similar engineering
platforms that regard a 200,000-mile life as ordinary.
The automotive world seems to agree with the Accord's pedigree.
Awards from last year include Car and Driver's "10
Best Cars," Consumer Digest Magazine's "Best Buy-Family
Car," Edmunds.com's "Family Sedan Comparison Test
Winner" and AAA's "Best Vehicle in Class."
Available Models
The 2005 Accord lineup includes coupes and sedans in DX,
LX and EX trims, as well as the new Hybrid sedan (DX, LX
and Hybrid covered separately).
Interior Features
There are three sets of feature packages with the EX trim
alone. Base EX models have cruise control, air conditioning,
an interior air filter, power mirrors and door locks, remote
keyless entry, illuminated visor mirrors, manual driver-seat
height adjustment, rear-seat trunk pass, an AM/FM radio
with in-dash 6-disc CD changer and steering-wheel radio
controls.
EX-L models add the decadent feel of leather to the proceedings.
Also included are dual-zone automatic climate controls,
a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, an
8-way power driver seat, satellite radio and an outside-temperature
indicator.
With a V6 engine, Honda throws in more comfort equipment
as well.
Exterior Features
Alloy wheels are standard on all EX models. So too is a
power sunroof.
Honda offers a special performance package with V6 coupes
this year. Consisting of a rear deck or wing spoiler, front,
rear and side underbody spoilers, special emblems, chrome
exhaust finish and more, it is designed to get you noticed
on the road.
Performance
The 2005 Accord coupe with the performance package also
includes is an upgraded suspension kit.
There are two engines used by Accord models this year.
The base engine is a 2.4-liter dual overhead cam inline
4-cylinder model. It is able to produce 160 horsepower at
5500 rpm and 161 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. 5-speed manual
and 5-speed automatic are the two transmission types available
with this powertrain.
Standard with V6 models is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers
240 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 212 lb-ft of torque at 5000
rpm. It can be teamed to either 6-speed manual or 5-speed
automatic transmission.
Safety and Security
The Accord continues to be very safe. Dual front airbags,
front side airbags, curtain side airbags and antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes are standard with EX models.
