The absolute monarch of the pickup truck class in terms
of speed returns for 2005 with its ridiculous power and
all of the attending style. The fastest production pickup
on the planet is now a mainstay, just like the grin on the
face of its owners.
Dodge calls the Ram SRT-10 a Viper with a pickup bed. And
they are exactly right. The SRT-10 uses the Viper's dominant
engine and puts it inside a two-door Ram 1500.
But that was last year-at least as far as the body is concerned.
The engine remains, but the model lineup is now expanded
with the addition of a four-door Quad Cab SRT-10 model.
Available Models
The 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10, as mentioned, comes in a regular
cab and Quad Cab configuration.
Interior Features
The 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 is filled with comfort appointments.
Some of the names on the lengthy list include dual-zone
manual climate controls, leather/suede upholstery, an 8-way
power driver seat, power-adjustable pedals, a rear under-seat
storage and fold-flat load floor (Quad Cab), a leather-wrapped
steering wheel and an Infinity AM/FM radio w/in-dash 6-disc
CD changer.
There are two communications systems offered this year.
One is the UConnect hands-free communications system, the
other is REC Navigation Radio, a DVD-based system that uses
voice commands to guide the user through the drive route.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 rides on unique 22-inch polished
aluminum "Viper-style" wheels, the largest wheels
available on a production pickup.
The SRT-10 is lowered one-inch in the front and two-inches
in the rear. It also features ground-effect moldings and
"Viper Powered" badges on either side of the hood
scoop. A 6.3-ft bed is standard.
Performance
The SRT-10 goes from 0-60 mph in just over five seconds.
It uses the Viper's revamped 8.5-liter, 505-cubic inch V10
engine. Mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, it gives
the rear-wheel drive pickup truck 500 horsepower at 5600
rpm and 525 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm.
The SRT-10 begins with the stiff hydroformed frame of the
regular Ram and then adds a custom-tuned suspension. New
front and rear strut assemblies and a rear sway bar were
also included to handle the increased cornering loads.
A front fascia with special cooling ducts was seen as an
essential component of the heat-generating V10 under the
SRT-10's hood. So too were Bilstein mono-tube shock absorbers
and performance-tuned springs.
Safety and Security
A three-channel antilock braking system (ABS) actuates new
custom red brake calipers up front that grip 15-inch rotors,
and in the rear, modified heavy-duty red calipers grip 14-inch
rotors. Additionally, front brakes are cooled with air ducted
from the front fascia to reduce heat build-up.
