With the Volvo C70, you've got a sporty convertible that
is graceful, fast and clean. Combine this with the legendary
safety for which all Volvo models are known and the result
is quite a remarkable vehicle.
One thing you won't have to worry about with the C70 is
acceleration. Another is the sleekness of the design. The
C70 is probably the model that gave the brand a new, fiery
beginning. Volvo describes it as the passionate expression
of Scandinavian design purity.
Unfortunately for most people who have enjoyed the C70,
2004 will be the final year of its production. The ragtop
rolls into its last year with a substantial drop in base
price, amounting to upwards of $4000 off.
Available Models
The 2004 Volvo C70 is offered in two models: 2.4 and 2.3.
Interior Features
The two-door C70 is a four-seater. There are a few new interior
styles to choose from for 2004. One, named Volcano Red,
features flashy red leather seats. Linen White is another
new interior color, giving the C70 soft white leather seating
surfaces.
The C70 is practically in the luxury class, so its models
are loaded. Base models have a standard equipment list that
includes air conditioning with dual-zone automatic climate
controls, cruise control, leather upholstery and heated
8-way power front bucket seats with driver-seat memory.
The top-line 2.3 model adds an AM/FM/cassette player with
in-dash 3-disc CD changer, a trip computer, an automatic
day/night rearview mirror and more.
Exterior Features
The C70 has a power insulated cloth top with a heated glass
rear window.
Performance
The one thing the C70 can do is perform. Base 2.4 trims
use a light-pressure turbo, 2.4-liter inline 5-cylinder
engine. It has 197 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 210 lb-ft
of torque at 1800 rpm. Mated to the I5 is a 5-speed automatic
transmission.
The wind whips into your face even harder with the 2.3 model.
It is so named because of the high-pressure turbo, 2.3-liter
inline 5-cylinder engine residing under its hood. The 2.3
gets 242 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 243 lb-ft of torque
at 2400 rpm.
2.3 models use a 5-speed manual transmission. As you shift
from gear to gear, your hand literally feels the power of
the turbocharged I5 engine.
Safety and Security
Safety matches performance step for step. The standard package
includes dual front airbags, front side airbags, traction
control, front-seat active head restraints, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes and a unique rollover protection system.
