Some models are meant to be the price-busters in a lineup,
others are the hard-working, heavy-duty kings, and still
others are known for their luxury. Then there's the Jeep
Liberty Renegade, clearly one of the most image-conscious
sport utility vehicles on the road today.
If you're interested in getting noticed while you cruise
the boulevard, the 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade is a model
that you should seriously consider. Differentiating itself
from the rest of the pack with an exterior that includes
functional rock rails, four skid plates and available P235/70R16
all-terrain tires with wider, more aggressive treads, it
is simply expected that a few stares will come its way.
For 2005, that bold package is updated, along with a few
other improvements to the SUV.
Available Models
The 2005 Jeep Liberty is available in three models: Sport,
Limited and Renegade. Sport and Limited models are covered
in a separate review.
Interior Features
On the inside, the Renegade is like other Liberty models.
It can sit five passengers and offers up to 69 cubic feet
of cargo volume.
The standard features list for 2005 includes air conditioning,
cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, a center console,
an AM/FM/CD player, a digital clock, a rear defogger, a
rear wiper/washer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise
control and power mirrors, windows and door locks.
For options, there's a navigation system, a 6-disc CD changer,
heated front seats, an overhead console and Infinity speakers.
In addition, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and a DVD-based Navigation
Radio are available on all models.
Exterior Features
The 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade looks like nothing before
it. 2005 models feature a new flatter hood and taller grille,
plus off-road fog lamps, taillamp guards, fender flares,
wheels and tires. The Liberty Renegade is also available
with an optional overhead light bar.
Performance
All 2005 Liberty models offer rear-wheel drive or a choice
of two 4WD systems, both with low-range gearing. Jeep's
Command-Trac 4WD should not be left engaged on dry pavement,
while Selec-Trac 4WD can be left engaged on dry pavement.
The Renegade uses a tried and tested 3.7-liter V6 engine.
It will produce 210 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 235 lb-ft
of torque at 4000 rpm. The 3.7 is mated to either 6-speed
manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and 4-wheel disc brakes are standard.
Renegade owners can add antilock brakes, curtain side airbags
and a tire-pressure monitor. Chrysler's UConnect hands-free
cellular link is also available.
