bench-seat configurations.
Interior Features
The 2003 Toyota Avalon has new layered gauges to add to
the classic luxury-oriented interior styling. Two new standard
features that typify the focus on passenger comfort and
convenience are the air filtration system and extension-equipped
sun visors. First time available options are a new optional
perforated leather interior package on the bucket-seat model
and a DVD navigation system with remote control.
The XL is generously appointed with luxury amenities that
includes a 120-Watt 3-in-one AM/FM/cassette/CD six speakers
audio system, dual-zone climate control, a multi-function
display providing time, outside temperature, twin trip meters,
odometer and warning lights, power windows that include
a driver's side one-touch up/down feature with pinch protection
and retained power, and power door locks with an anti-lockout
feature that stops the doors from locking if the keys are
in the ignition.
XLS adds such items as an audio system upgrade, automatic
climate control, trip computer and compass display, rain-sensing
wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with woodgrain-style
accents and a driver side electrochromic auto-dimming mirror.
Exterior Features

in the rear a new chrome license plate has been added and
the taillight clusters widened to match the front styling.

A double overhead-cam 3.0-liter V6 engine powers the 2003
Toyota Avalon with 210 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 220lb.-ft.
of peak torque at 4,400 rpm. Toyota's advanced Variable
Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) optimizes power delivery
throughout the engine's range, giving the Corolla punchy
and reliable acceleration that makes for comfortable highway
passing and merging. The engine is teamed to a 4-speed automatic
transmission that enables it to achieve EPA fuel mileage
ratings of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Safety and Security
The Avalon has advanced safety with advanced four-sensor,
four-channel anti-lock (ABS) four-wheel disc brakes with
an electronic brake force distribution (EBD) feature that
optimizes braking pressure at each wheel to ensure stability
under hard braking, especially while cornering. Both Avalon
models come with multi-stage front airbags and seat-mounted
side airbags for the driver and front passenger.
XLS safety and control extras include a Vehicle Skid Control
(VSC) system that integrates traction control (TRAC) and
