Jaguar's storied tradition dates back to 1922 and founder
William Lyons. Over the years the Jaguar brand has been
synonymous with excellent performance, refinement and comfort.
Now under the Ford umbrella, Jaguar still retains a deserving
place among the elite group of automakers.
The 2003 Jaguar S-Type is Jaguar's midsize sedan. Like
all Jaguars, it infuses sophistication into a solid engineering
core. For 2003, the Jaguar S-Type is even more impressive,
rounding in with a host of improvements. A new, stronger
engine and a new uplevel trim top the list. In addition,
all models feature a completely redesigned interior with
optional touch-screen display and an enhanced occupant safety
system.
Available Models
The 2003 Jaguar S-Type is offered in three models: 3.0,
4.2 and the new R.
Interior Features
The four-door 2003 Jaguar S-Type is able to seat five passengers
inside its luxurious interior. All models offer the following
features, with uplevel trims adding even more: a lush leather
interior featuring a wood trim, air conditioning with dual-zone
automatic climate controls, a power tilt/telescoping wood/leather-wrapped
steering wheel with radio controls, cruise control, an AM/FM/CD
player, a trip computer, a rear defogger and much more.
For 2003, the optional equipment abounds. A new optional
LCD touch-screen display provides fingertip control of climate,
audio and navigation systems and portable cellular telephones.
A multi-function, satellite navigation system is also available
as an option. The system employs DVD technology to deliver
highly accurate information, virtually instantaneously.
Exterior Features
The 2003 Jaguar S-Type is restyled both inside and out.
Heated rain-sensing variable-intermittent wipers have a
mind of their own, and that is a good thing. The new Jaguar
S-Type R has a rear spoiler for high-speed stability, alloy
wheels, xenon headlights and a bright-finish mesh front
grille with color-keyed surround.
Performance
These cars handle and perform as well as they look. All
S-Types get a retuned suspension and add an antiskid system
to standard traction control for exceptionally smooth and
secure rides. 3.0 trims receive a 3.0-liter V6 engine that
delivers 240 horsepower and 221 lb-ft. of torque. The 4.2
has more kick with a 4.2-liter V6 with 300 horsepower and
310 lb-ft. of torque.
With 400 horsepower, Jaguar's new 4.2-liter supercharged
V8 engine propels the S-Type R from zero to 60 mph in just
5.3 seconds and then on to an electronically limited top
speed of 155 mph. The engine's broad torque band and the
new, six-speed automatic ZF transmission deliver highly
responsive road manners as well.
Safety and Security
Curtain side airbags are new for 2003. They join a safety
package that includes dual front airbags, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes and the aforementioned antiskid system. For
reversing maneuvers, a rear-obstacle detection system is
particularly helpful.
2003 Jaguar S-Type Highlights
An
all-new front suspension, a revised rear suspension,
plus a body structure that is 10 percent stiffer,
enhances the S-TYPEs already outstanding ride
comfort and poised, agile handling.
