The 2003 Infinity M45 is a full-size luxury sedan with
performance, both handling and power, design priorities.
However, as a luxury sedan, it also has the high content
of interior fittings and features that one would expect
from Nissan's upscale division.
The 2003 Infiniti M45 is designed to fill the price-gap
between the flagship Q45, with which it shares many performance
components, and the lower level G35 sport sedan. However,
that is not to say that this is a G35 with a 4.5-liter engine.
The styling and dimensions of the rear-wheel drive V8 M45
are all its own.
Available Models
Like the other Infiniti models, the 2003 Infiniti M45 has
one trim level and model. However, it features a very high
level of standard offerings, one more characteristic of
the amenity level found in more upscale cars. This standard
is then complemented by useful stand alone options as well
as several major equipment packages to add specific desired
details for those who want them.
Interior Features
Sport contoured 10- (driver) and 4-way powered front bucket
seats with Sojourner leather upholstery start off the M45
interior styling list. Optional Climate Controlled Seats
(CCS') are available, offering both heating and cooling
functions which significantly enhance driver and passenger
comfort.
Bird's Eye Maple wood trim with a smoke graphite color
add more styling touches while function is enhanced by the
performance-oriented four-dial instrument cluster, complete
with amber lighting that silhouettes the gauges. Also present
is a 225-watt Bose premium audio system with an AM/FM tuner,
an in-dash 6-disc CD autochanger and 7-speakers. Steering
wheel audio controls, vehicle-speed-sensitive volume control
and Radio Data System (RDS) all add function and convenience.
Optional add-ons like the M45's high tech DVD-based navigation
system, Intelligent Cruise Control system that maintains
driver-selected following distances and the state-of-the-art
Infiniti Voice Recognition System are all available individually
or as parts of major packages.
Exterior Features
The M45's exterior is very distinctive. Radiating dynamism
and sport performance, the car has a go-fast look, one enhanced
by an aggressive front grille, with wide black chrome horizontal
bars that flow into the sporty, high-intensity discharge
(HID) xenon headlights design.
A long 110.2-inch wheelbase and a dynamic wedge shape running
from the front to the rear combines with swept back C-pillar,
tapered rear appearance and highly visible combination lamps.
Body-colored side molding, chrome door handles and aluminum
8-spoke wheels add notable touches.
Performance
The aluminum-alloy, double overhead-cam, 4.5-liter V8 engine
on the Infinity produces a whopping 340 hp at 6400 rpm and
333 lb-ft of torque at 4000. A standard 5-speed automatic
transmission with manual shift mode controls this powerplant,
achieving mileage ratings from the EPA of 17/23 mpg. A bit
of a guzzler but it does get to 60mph in under 7 seconds.
The M45's aggressive handling, outstanding stability and
responsive steering are enhanced by standard Vehicle Dynamic
Control (VDC), which helps improve vehicle stability during
understeer, oversteer or adverse road conditions and an
integral Traction Control System (TCS). An independent strut
suspension with coil springs in the front and an independent
multi-link suspension in the rear provide the stable, smooth
ride. Standard 18-inch wheels and 235/45WR18 high performance
tires add value and capability.
Safety and Security
4-wheel vented disc brakes with ABS, Brake Assist and Electronic
Brake force Distribution all come as standard equipment
on the M45 to comprise the active safety technology. Passive
safety features include dual front and front side airbags,
advanced belt systems and the child-seat restraint LATCH
system.
