The 2003 Infinity FX45 is a brand new crossover vehicle
on the production lines at the time of this writing and
scheduled for sale in early 2003. The FX45 is a sports car
with SUV capabilities and Infinity style. The FX45 is part
of the car-buying public growing desire to move away from
the oversize vehicles while still retaining the favourite
characteristics.
People still want good visibility, a feeling of road security
and adverse terrain versatility but they don't want big
lumbering cars that are hard to maneuver. The 2003 Infiniti
FX45 is designed to appeal to those who want a race-worthy
car with high power and performance values yet still want
to make it to a campsite or get through a blizzard.
Available Models
The 2003 Infiniti FX45 is a four-door, four passenger sedan/coupe/SUV.
Interior Features
The interior of the 2003 Infiniti FX45 will offer a rich
blend of handcrafted brick-colored leather and polished
aluminum accents. This is a luxury class vehicle and it
is loaded with high-tech electronics and convenience amenities.
For example, a 9.5-inch LCD screen will offer a floating
instrument cluster that will display a large assortment
of information to the driver.
The rear passengers can enjoy an overhead DVD and video
game display panel. All the seats will offer capabilities
in accordance with their position, allowing the front passenger
to regulate their seat temperature, for example. All seats
will have power adjustment capability.
Exterior Features
The FX45 has been designed to take full advantage of its
112.2-inch long wheelbase, wide stance and 21-inch wheels
and tires to create a strong and distinctive presence. Rather
than produce an SUV that looks like a "cross-between
this and that" they have chosen a new path. The result
is the FX45. The exterior makes a strong, fast and agile
statement - so that the FX45 looks the way it drives.
The cabin is set back like a sports car, with long doors,
broad fenders, large, LED taillights and the tires pushed
out to the corners. A large, Infiniti-style grille and narrow
horizontal headlights add to the styling, reinforcing the
classic sports car effect. However, this is no lightweight.
The FX45 has a solid presence whether still or in motion.
Performance
The V8 in the FX45 is a 4.5 based on the Q45 powerplant.
A 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode
will manage the 300hp and over 300lb-ft of torque expected.
Electronic torque demand all-wheel drive will make for capabilities
well in excess of your typical high-powered sports car and
a beefy 4-wheel independent suspension with multi-link rear
design will handle a variety of road conditions.
Safety and Security
4-wheel vented disc brakes with ABS, Brake Assist and Electronic
Brake force Distribution will come standard as well as the
full selection of Infiniti restraint systems; both belt
and airbag based.
