Flashy brother to the workhorse Sierra Base, the 2003 GMC
Sierra Denali is one of the biggest boys in the Full-size
Pick-up class. A luxury vehicle with a fiery iron heart,
the Denali has more power than one would expect until you
find its 325 horsepower, 6.0-liter V8. Two other standard
features, the 8-wire trailer hitch and the OnStar System
give a sense of the dual priority present in the Denali's
design. With performance and luxury vying for supremacy
as priorities in the design phases, the winner appears to
be the consumer.
Available Models
The Denali ups the ante on the Base Sierra with more power,
a more extensive collection of features, and improved performance
specs. This is the top of the line for the GMC's full-size
pick-up class; bigger, stronger, faster and not six million
dollars.
Interior Features
Simply put, the Sierra Denali has it all and then some The
list of features goes on forever but here are some highlights;
dual-zone automatic climate controls, cruise control, tilt
leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, an OnStar
System w/one-year service that includes roadside assistance,
emergency services and an AM/FM/cassette w/in-dash 6-disc
CD changer and available satellite radio.
As for seating and driver comfort, heated leather upholstered
power front bucket seats with driver side memory settings
are standard equipment. An engine hour-meter, power everything
(including adjustable pedals), and much more are part of
the interior convenience or functional details.
Exterior Features
Meanwhile, on the outside, a number of great exterior features
include but are certainly not limited to, tubular step boards,
roof-marker lights, tonneau cover and color-keyed bumpers;
fog lights and an 8-wire trailer harness add additional
value.
Performance
The Denali is powered by a powerful Vortec 6.0-liter V8
with 320 horsepower at 5000rpm and 370lb-ft of torque at
4000rpm. The AWD 4-speed automatic transmission gets 16/20
mpg (city/hwy) and it has GM's Quadrasteer 4-wheel steering,
adding stability at highway speeds and maneuverability when
parking or negotiating small spaces. Meanwhile, standard
performance enhancements include GM's AutoTrac system and
a ride-control suspension that makes for a smooth and controlled
ride over even the roughest terrain. Basically, the Sierra
Denali is loaded to the gunwales with all the latest performance
and handling innovations in GM's extensive bag of tricks.
Safety and Security
Naturally, safety was not ignored. The Denali has dual front
airbags, antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and daytime running
lights as standard equipment.
