The top-selling car in its class last year, the 2003 Acura
3.2 TL is a sedan to be reckoned with. A luxury performance
sedan with great interior amenities, plush materials, quality
parts and aggressive performance capabilities, the TL is
the mid-level offering from this manufacturer.
This year, the OnStar communications system was added to
the Acura Navigation System making it better equipped with
technological sophistication than ever.
Available Models
The 2003 Acura TL has two models this year, the base Acura
3.2 TL and the Acura 3.2 TL Type-S: a sport model with a
significantly more powerful engine. Both models can be purchased
with or without OnStar and Navigation.
Interior Features
The 2003 Acura TL has the level of interior content one
would expect in a luxury class car rather than the near-luxury
segment it is offered for. Items like leather upholstery,
automatic climate control, name brand Bose audio and heated
front bucket seats are just highlights of an extensive list.
The Type-S has no additional interior features but both
models have optional OnStar-equipped Acura Navigation System
versions available.
Exterior Features
The 2003 Acura TL will continue to an image with crisp lines
to accentuate the cars sporty performance capability. This
year two new colours are being implemented including Desert
Mist, which is replacing Naples Gold, and Royal Ruby, which
is replacing Firepepper Red. This means the TL is available
in nine exterior colors. Xenon High Intensity Discharge
(HID) headlights will offer drivers outstanding night time
visibility.
Performance
The base 3.2 TL has a couple of engine choices including
a new 24-valve 3.2-liter V6 engine capable of 225 hp at
5600 rpm and, and 216 lb-ft of torque at 6100.
The Type-S is a different story. With 260hp at 6100 rpm
and 232 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3500, the sporty Type-S will
give you lots of acceleration, speed and easy merging ability.
It is only a V-6 but it has Variable Valve Timing and Lift
Electronic Control (VTEC(TM)) to maintain optimal power
and is ample for this size of vehicle.
The Acura 5-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission
is common to both models. This system allows the driver
to enjoy an automatic transmission or shift gears semi-manually
in a special manual shift gate.
Safety and Security
The addition of optional OnStar obviously cranks up the
safety quotient. However, even without OnStar, buyers will
enjoy outstanding passive and active safety technology.
This is especially for the Type-S, which comes with the
usual assortment of airbags and seat belts as well as active
safety innovative systems like antiskid, traction control,
a sport suspension and road hugging, low profile 215/50VR17
tires.
