• Surprising Off-road capabilities – when equipped with the Freedom-Drive II Off-Road Group the Jeep Compass is surprisingly capable off-roads something most of the competing compact crossover SUVs can’t boast. The package includes 17.5 x 6.5-inch aluminum wheels with All-terrain tires, four-wheel drive off-road mode, hill descent control, fuel tank skid plate shield, tow hooks, brake-lock differential, engine oil cooler and the Jeep Trail Rated Badge so that everyone will know what your off-road capabilities.
• Manual roll up windows in Sport – the base Sport trim comes with roll up window it may seem odd that this is a pro – but it’s always nice to have that option available. It’s getting harder to find cars that have roll up windows – and it’s just one less thing to worry about. Power windows are nice but if you end up having a problem they always seem to happen at the most inopportune time – such as they stop working during a rain storm with the window down. Power windows are available across all other trims and with the Sport SE package, so if you have to have them they are available.
• Attractive exterior – the Jeep Cherokee is very attractive its modern, bold looks fits nicely in a lineup with its bigger siblings the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee.
• 2.4-Liter I-4 engine gives better performance – for the Jeep Compass the 2.4-liter I-4 engine is the better choice giving more horsepower (172 @6,000 rpm) and torque (165 @ 4,400) while not sacrificing much mileage efficiency. The engine gives the Compass a much more capable and sporty feel.
2016 Jeep Compass - Cons and Comparisons
• Engines are not powerful – with 158 @ 6,400 rpm horsepower and 141 lb.-ft. Torque @ 5,000 rpm the 2.0-liter I-4 engine feels a bit sluggish while the 2.4-liter I-4 is a nice upgrade the Compass lacks a truly powerful engine choice.
• Average gas mileage – while the 23 city / 30 highway estimated mpg fuel efficiency on the 2.0-liter engine is by no means bad it does fall behind the Mazda CX-5’s 26 city / 35 highway mpg.

• Poor front crash test rating – the Jeep Compass received a 3-star crash frontal crash rating from the NHTSA. It did receive a 4-star rollover rating – overall and side crash ratings have not been given yet although if they follow the same ratings given to the 2014 model they would be 5-star side crash and 4-star overall ratings.
• Small cargo storage space – while this is expected to some degree in the compact crossover SUV division with 22.7 cu.-ft. behind the rear seats and 53.6 cu.-ft. with seats folded – the Compass falls behind many of the competitors. This would be something to consider if you really need cargo space.
