Once you step over the 8,500 GVWR, you get into the realm
of the true workhorse. Full-size pickups in this segment
have to be versatile, dependable and supremely strong. That
pretty much sums up Ford's Super Duty lineup for 2004.
F-250 models are ¾-ton beasts that have big payloads
and plenty of ruggedness. F-350 models are 1-ton behemoths
that can carry even more and perform harder tasks.
New for 2004 are improved diesel emissions, more interior
equipment and versatility and the coming of a special Harley
Davidson model (offered later in the year). It will be chromed-out
in true hog fashion.
Available Models
The 2004 Ford F-250 and F-350 are available in regular cab,
extended cab and crew cab body styles. There are three standard
trims, plus the new Harley Davidson package: XL, XLT and
Lariat.
Interior Features
Three different cab sizes give customers the choice of selecting
how much interior space they want. If the need is to have
a work truck that can also hold a lot of people in a roomy
setting, the crew cab is the best bet.
In the middle of the model family is the XLT trim, which
is also joined by an XLT Sport model that (appropriately)
features a few sporty exterior and interior features. The
straight XLT offers power windows, mirrors and door locks,
air conditioning, floormats, a CD player and a split bench
front seat.
A luxurious King Ranch package is available for 2004. It
features such things as Castaño leather consoles/grab
handles/steering wheel, heated seats, quad captain's chairs
and King Ranch logos on the floormats and instrument panel.
Exterior Features
On the outside, King Ranch versions have two-tone paint
with body-color door handles, Arizona Beige wheel lip moldings,
front grille and bumpers and King Ranch aluminum wheels.
Performance
Power is a given with these guys. There are three engines
available to do the work. The first is a 5.4-liter V6 with
260 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. If you need more
juice, there's a 6.8-liter V10 with 310 horsepower and 425
lb-ft of torque.
If you need still more, the final engine is a 6.0-liter
Power Stroke direct-injection, 32-valve turbodiesel V8 with
cast-iron block and cylinder heads. It boasts the highest
horsepower and torque in its class (325 horsepower and 550
lb-ft of torque).
Safety and Security
Dual front airbags and antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are
standard on all 2004 models. New this year is keypad entry
as part of an Advanced Security Group option.
