• Choice of FWD or 4x4 – all trim levels are available in either FWD or 4x4 configurations – so depending on your needs you’ll find a Patriot that is suited to them. If you live a lifestyle where you won’t be doing off-road driving or don’t deal with winter conditions the FWD version might be for you – you’ll save some money with better fuel economy and lower maintenance fees. If you love the outdoors or want better traction for winter driving the 4x4 versions would be your choice.
• Old school Jeep styling – with the Cherokee, Compass and Grand Cherokee moving to a modern styled look – it’s nice to see part of the line-up stay true to the classic Jeep look. If you prefer the modern look and are thinking of buying a Jeep you might lean towards the Compass – but if you are a fan of the round headlights and larger grille then the Patriot, Renegade and Wrangler might be the right Jeep for you.
• Nice off-road capabilities – the 2016 Jeep Patriot has decent off-road performance – with the optional Freedom Drive II Off-road Group (only available with the 2.4-liter I-4 engine) it receives the Jeep Trail Rated Badge and a bunch of equipment to make it better suited for off-road adventures. The off-road group includes CVT transmission with off-road mode and Hill-decent Control with grade sensing, brake traction-control system, engine oil cooler and upgraded sealing package – it also adds tow hooks, full-size spare tire, trailer-tow wiring harness, 140-amp alternator, driver’s seat height adjuster and an air filtration system for the cabin.
• Great visibility – due to the rectangular design of the Jeep Patriot – you get a good command of view to your surroundings while driving.
• Lots of passenger space – ffor a compact crossover SUV the Patriot has a roomy interior for its passengers with not a lot of space lost in dimensions for the rear seat. Particularly front and rear headroom and rear seat leg room are near the top when compared to the competitors.

• 2.4-Liter I-4 engine gives better performance – for the Jeep Compass the 2.4-liter I-4 engine is the better choice giving more horsepower (172 @6,000 rpm) and torque (165 @ 4,400) while not sacrificing much mileage efficiency. The engine gives the Compass a much more capable and sporty feel.
2016 Jeep Compass - Cons and Comparisons
• 2.0-Liter engine is sluggish – while the 2.4-liter I-4 engine performance is better and is definitely the engine of choice for the Patriot – the 2.0-liter lacks power and tends to dampen the overall driving experience.
• Low crash test scoring – while the FWD Patriot received an overall crash test rating of 4-stars from the NHTSA. It only received 3-star ratings in the Rollover and Frontal Crash categories – it did score a 5-star rating in the Side Crash category.
• Too much hard plastics in interior – many feel that the over use of hard plastics cheapens the feel of the interior and more soft-touch materials would be more welcoming.
• Small cargo storage overall – while the cargo room behind the rear seats isn’t horrible when you look at the cargo room available when they are folded you realize it falls behind many of its competitors.
